Our Kindergarten Program

Our nature-based Kindergarten Program offers meaningful benefits that extend far beyond a traditional classroom. By immersing children in the natural world, we foster physical well-being, curiosity, creativity and a growing sense of environmental stewardship. Daily opportunities for active exploration support motor development, confidence and resilience while helping children build a lasting connection with nature.

Our Evergreen program is mindfully designed for children ages 3.5 to 5, and operates with a maximum class size of 10. This allows us to provide a focused, personalized learning environment that nurtures each child’s academic, social, emotional and physical development.

Designed in consultation with our Ontario Certified Teachers, our program incorporates the four frames identified in the Ontario Ministry of Education’s The Kindergarten Program (2016). Alongside school readiness, children develop confidence, independence and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world.

Our commitment to nurturing the whole child is woven into every aspect of the Kindergarten day. Children participate in meaningful, hands-on experiences such as baking, gardening and forest exploration. These experiences enrich academic learning while supporting practical life skills, creativity, collaboration and a deeper connection with the world around them.

Through our French Fundamentals Program, children are introduced to the French language through music, stories, play and nature-based experiences. Guided by an educator who specializes in teaching French to young learners, children build foundational language skills while developing confidence and a genuine enjoyment of French.

We also recognize that family-style dining offers valuable learning opportunities that extend beyond the table. Mealtimes encourage independence, conversation, cooperation and a sense of community. All snacks and lunches are provided by Real Food for Real Kids, with an emphasis on nutritious meals prepared using local and organic ingredients whenever possible. Meals and snacks are included in tuition.

As the City of Hamilton is not currently entering into new childcare agreements, Ancaster Forest & Nature School is unable to participate in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care program (CWELCC) at this time.
